While we still have a handful of days until Obama’s inauguration (also Grandma’s birthday) on January 20th and the President-elect’s office has released his new official portrait. As the first presidential portrait taken with a digital camera and the meta-data embedded in the photo we can see that it was taken with a with a Canon EOS 5D Mark II on January 13th, 2009 at 5:38 pm with no flash, using a 105mm lens stopped to f/10 at a 1/125 exposure, with an ISO of 100 by newly crowned official White House photographer Pete Souza (via). Photo geeks will be very exited about that information and for everyone else; it’s a nice photo isn’t it (below)? Better than the official photo for George W. Bush (right) at the very least!

For every Mac user there is a wealth of gorgeous applications which do fantastically useless things and I’m glad to say that Poladroid is no exception. What this charming little app does is turn your digital photos into Polaroids! Which for my money (did I mention it’s free?) is pretty cool. The process is simple:
- Download, install and open the application.
- Drag a digital photo of your choosing onto the camera.
- Wait and watch as your photo slowly develops over a couple of minutes.
- Once the application has finished developing admire the new JPEG.
- Show all of your friends on your blog and by updating your facebook picture!
- Viola!
For comparison’s sake the original photo of Nat is on the right and the new Polaroid version is below; pretty cool eh? If you make your own please put a link in the comments; I’d love to see!

Also if you happen to be one of those poor sods who don’t have a mac then feel free to send me the photo you’d like doing and I’ll email it back to you polar-ised; it’s just too much fun to miss out on!
